BSE kills cattle by infectious prions

 Cases

The disease has been reported in domestic cattle in Ireland (337 cases), France (51), Portugal (195), Switzerland (283), and in cattle exported from England to Oman (2), the Falkland Islands(1), Germany (6), Denmark(1), Canada (1), and Italy (2).
CJD-casualties

In Great Britain 87 people died of Creutzfeldt-Jakob-Disease
In France 3 people died of CJD.
BSE
 
These numbers probably under-estimate 
the incidence since more than 2000 cases would be expected in the EU 
(outside the United Kingdom).

concerning humans: Creutzfeldt-Jakob-disease (CJD).

concerning sheep: trotting disease (Scrapie)

concerning cattle: 
Bovine Sprongiform Encephalopathy ( BSE)

concerning peole in New Guinea eating ritually the brains of dead fellows: Kuru.
